Intellectual Property

With all this talk of open source material, see here, here, here and even here, it's hard to avoid experiencing a twinge of conscience about the issue of intellectual property rights. The premises and arguments for and against the protection of such rights are summed up pretty neatly here, though I still find myself sitting on this particular fence. What do you think?

I probably sit on the fence as well. I do alot of design work so in theory I ought to be for it. However, just because someone has solved a problem the same way I did doesn't mean they stole my idea. In a way, intellectual property rights are a strike against freedom.

Now that you've had me think about it though, I honestly think that if the choice were mine I would choose freedom.
