Mark Steyn on the Nationalisation of Childhood

here.

"I keep getting e-mails saying, "People will reach a tipping point and they'll no longer put up with this stuff." I doubt it. Right now the way to bet is that once free societies will retreat incrementally, one trivial step after another, into a totalitarian hell."

For home educators, we are only one bit of legislation away from Mark's worst nightmare. But what am I complaining about. It is already here anyway for absolutely everyone.

To be honest there's a part of me that agrees with Steyn; that people wont be bothered to fight back, just so long as Eastenders and X Factor or whatever is on. I watch Strictly Come Dancing -but I don't think it needs to be headline news every week. Why is it? Crazy.
How do we get heard over all the glitz-noise?

In the "Improving ..." bill you link to it promises:
"a new set of guarantees to an individually tailored education for each child AND THEIR PARENTS".
What on earth can this mean? Are they going to guide our education? Or impose legal requirements on parents' involvement in their child's school education, or what?
blurgh. It is all so horrible. I keep thinking how the Jews had no idea of the extent to which it would all descend either. Maybe that is an over reaction... maybe we are beginning to see a really deep change in politics. Maybe I've just been ignorant previously and this has all been normal for the entirety of my ignorant life?

I agree

"The bourgeois family will vanish.... Do you charge us with wanting to stop the exploitation of children by their parents? To this crime we plead guilty. But, you say, we destroy the most hallowed of relations, when we replace home education by social. And your education! Is not that also social, and determined by the social conditions under which you educate...? The Communists have not invented the intervention of society in education; they do but seek to alter the character of that intervention...."[1] Marx and Engels, Communist Manifesto

"Years before he had inflicted... dialectical materialism on a long-suffering world, Marx called for what had to be accomplished—the ‘ruthless destruction of everything existing.’ That destruction would wipe out religion, the family, morality... and everything that made Western civilization…. The seemingly modest instrument was the [Frankfurt] Institute of Social Research... dedicated to neo-Marxism.'"...the greatest harm came when the Frankfurt School decamped to America, courtesy of John Dewey and Columbia University."

From UNESCO 'The UN Plan for food and Land:
"In addition, we now know much about the biological evolution, the existence of several types of selection... the evolutionary conflict between the limitations set by an organism's nature and past history and the requirement of the present, and its solution by means of some new adjustment.... This last point immediately recalls the thesis, antithesis and synthesis of Hegelian philosophy, and the Marxist 'reconciliation of opposites' based on it. Indeed, dialectical materialism was the first radical attempt at an evolutionary philosophy. Unfortunately, it was based too exclusively upon principles of social as against biological evolution." p. 11
So fall into line you 'organisms' because :
"...society as such embodies no values comparable to those embodied in individuals; but individuals are meaningless except in relation to the community." p. 62

And theres a whole lot more...................

And their plans have not changed.
( Sorry this is so long, got worked up a bit! )

Sorry, just found this Nazi nastiness too.

Punish parents who protect their children from state indoctrination: "A legal guardian will be liable to a fine up to 150 RM or to imprisonment, if he deliberately contravenes the stipulation #9 of this decree (registration for Hitler Youth)."

Hmmm a bit too close for comfort that one.

In her article, "Mandatory National Service Is a Tool to Indoctrinate Youth into Socialism,"
Maxine Shideler shows that parental resistance meant nothing to Hitler. In a 1933 speech, the Nazi leader told the spellbound crowd,

"When an opponent says, 'I will not come over to your side,' I calmly say, 'Your child belongs to us already... What are you? You will pass on. Your descendants, however, now stand in the new camp. In a short time, they will know nothing else but this new community."[34]

Better stop this and go now and attend to the multiple cries for choc spread on toast : )
