Friday Evening Syndrome

Errgh...really by now I should recognize that late Friday afternoon syndrome. Dd gets all grumpy. I gradually notice an onset of exhaustion in the pair of us, but not so perceptibly that I anticipate it effectively in any way whatsoever, though we get the point sufficiently to leave friends and pile back in the car. Dd promptly falls asleep. I just about avoid the hedgerows on the journey home, forgetting to collect Ds on the way. Get home to find three, under normal circumstances, extremely tempting invitations for the evening. Dd wakes up, now chirpy and full of beans with not the least inclination to go to bed for several hours at the very least, and I am left in a foul temper, missing the evening out, and wondering if I have the energy to collect Ds and catch up with Dh down the pub.

When I think about it, I have always asked a lot of Dd, dragging her around to every possible event, keeping her up all hours, expecting her to cope. I doubt if it has had any damaging effects other than experiencing my extremely short temper come Friday evening...

Oh well, she is currently singing at my elbow, writing out my name underlined with kisses, so things can't really be as bad as I imagined.

And we are off to look round a local school tomorrow. Yesterday she announced firmly that she wants to be home edjumicated, but this comes after a string of assertions to the contrary, so a bit of fact finding seemed called for.

  1. Goodness, are you serious about that last paragraph? I will be very interested to hear what you and dd think about it all.

Won't the school be empty on a Saturday?

  3. It's one of those ones that does Saturday school but has longer holidays...

I can't really think why we are showing this one to Dd. I suppose I thought it only fair to show her a nominally very good school, and theres' the fact that a couple of her toddler group friends are going there.
