This does explain why some people think that abuse is not a problem as some of the children who are subjected to it (according to the comments made in the article) even feel that they are some how privileged. Of course, it is always an abuse of power. However another justification I have heard for letting the teacher-paedophiles go free is that children don't remember so it doesn't really matter. This view would appear to be totally dismissed.
This was so far from extreme in my experience. It was a common-place in some schools and actually relatively mild when compared to the experiences of some people I know. Grooming was also EXTREMELY common-place. It should be in the minds of every parent I think. Certainly the parents in those days never let it enter their little heads that it was a problem or if they did, that it mattered at all.
(Can you not sense that I AM FURIOUS ABOUT THIS SORT OF BETRAYAL?)
I don't know whether or not such things are still going on, (or whether it is now predominantly pupil on pupil) but given that it has taken years for these people to reveal what happened, it should be in every parent's mind right now, I think.
Both boarding schools and home education can facilitate abuse to those that want to abuse. If it's a case how inspection doesn't work, maybe it's a good one.

So you play the same game the news play against home educators?
ReplyDeleteUsing shock anedoctes of extreme abuse in attempts to prove a whole system of education dangerous?
You should know better.
