Ah, now that's interesting. How did they slip that one by us, I wonder? Or could it be that Ed is making this up?
We hope so, since when last consulted on the matter of a child's positive right to an education, the DCSF lawyers vetoed the idea, for what appears to be thoroughly sound reasons.

Seems to me like it'll be more along the lines of 'mandatory' attendance at school, rather than a 'right'!! They have the right to continue with education their whole lives if they want to!
ReplyDeleteI was thinking that this was very contradictory to people suggesting the lowering of the voting age to 16--can't pass that if we are going to 'force' 'adults' into schools!
Have you seen this? A mother who is teaching her disabled daughter at home, has been told she must go to a 'case conference', as social workers want to stop her, under a law aimed at child abusers.

"Everyone has the right to education. Education shall be free, at least in the elementary and fundamental stages. Elementary education shall be compulsory. Technical and professional education shall be made generally available and higher education shall be equally accessible to all on the basis of merit. …" (Article 26)
