There is still time to sign it.

UPDATE:

"You recently signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "Allow home educators to be free from the interference of Local Education Authorities."The Prime Minister's Office has responded to that petition and you can view it here: http://www.number-10.gov.uk/output/Page11289.asp"

I did, but what's the point? I just exposed my family stupidly for nothing.

Have you noticed how the petition for compulsory faith education is winning?

actually there are very few signatories indeed for this. Hopefully it won't be used as a proof of how little it matters!

It is going to be an advantage to them that we are afraid to reveal ourselves. Anybody who has taken the risk is pretty courageous really. I must say that I didn't feel too happy about it either.

  3. I must say, I don't quite understand what all the secrecy is about.

I'm not going to tell my LEA, but if they find out, well ok.

I know there are horror stories, but equally, I know of lots of families that have very good relationships with their LEA.

  4. Having actually shopped myself to my LA inclusion unit, giving them my full name and address (completely by accident), and then not hearing a dicky bird, I am pretty happy to sign this petition. I feel they are very unlikely to pursue names here, given the shortage of funds to do this kind of thing and the fact that at least some signatures are not from home educators, or are from HEors who are already known to the authorities. It would be a time wasting exercise for them to follow this one up, I think.

We are much more likely to be unearthed in other ways, I think, eg: through IT link ups...child benefit info feeding into the Child database aka Contactpoint, for example.

I know I am being thick, D, but are you saying there are few signatures for the HE petition or for the compulsory faith education petition? As I gather, the HE petition only need a few more signatures to get into the top 100, which given that we are such a minority group, isn't bad imo.

Oops! Sorry for my ignorance! I didn't realise that at all. It just looked (as recently signed charging for travel which had masses of signatures) as though 1444 wasn't an awful lot.

If it is then - brilliant!
