Don't Believe What You Read from the BBC

My scepticism about on-line schooling in the last post becomes understandable in the light of this from the BBC. Most UK Home Educators who've been around a bit would not touch it with a barge-pole.

(And so much for the standard of journalism at the Beeb. This was a press release, pure and simple.)

I don't know. I learnt quite a lot from my electronic schooling - being as it was self-directed and free from the insane hands of uncaring bureaucrats.

Would agree with you, Tom. Just because one person's efforts to school on-line seem dodgy (and her system seems unpleasant) doesn't make the whole concept a bad one.

You know, I actually strongly agree. I think that electronic schooling has an enormous potential - and that I wasn't at all clear in my post.

My concern was really limited to this particular example, which I strongly suspect, given the individuals responsible for it, is not of the first quality.

This has made me even more anxious than usual about claims on the internet and I would now really want to check such things out before subbing.

by her system, i mean the focus on reward and punishment and doing what one is told rather than on the pleasure of learning, which is undoubtedly very possible on-line...

Totally agree! I would want to meet the tutors in person and check out references!

What a waste of perfectly good Internet.
