It is not often that I find myself crying my eyes out in front of the computer, but this Guardian article on home education has done it and done it for a whole bunch of good reasons. It is one of the first accurate, humane and insightful accounts of what it means to be a home educator that I have read in the mainstream media. For that alone, I am crying with relief.
And Ann's story - I defy anyone not to be moved by it.
Thank you The Newstead Family and thank you Dave. Have got to go find a box of tissues.

yes it IS rather a good article, isn't it. your blog mate dave will be getting some thank you emails i think...then again the younger newsteads are really good at doing this kind of thing...little diplomats, unlike my own dear boy of course...
love, fiona
ps having a spot of bother with this word recognition thing in order to post my comment , c...5th time lucky...
Lol, re T. I so enjoyed meeting him if only very briefly. The main problem being in his presence is the discomforting sense of being in the company of a massive mind churning away, seeing and understanding things that one didn't even know were there!
That's not his fault though. The only solution to that would be to knock him over the head with something heavy, and I don't suppose that would go down too well with the education inspectorate.
I think I'm going to take that word thing off. It is a complete nuisance!
thanks c. theo and i started to watch the jarmusch film ghost dog the way of the samurai over the last few days, and the bit where the french speaking ice cream vendor gets his big book of bears down to show the girl and it cuts from big brown bear to our hero the ghost dog...well, i was sitting next to mister t on the sofa at the time and i just said t, YOU are that bear as well...sorry, i have started talking about myself immediately again...dreadful habit...love, fiona ( nb the word recognition things get easier the more you muff them...if i failed enough times it would probably just give me a single capital letter...)
Thanks Carlotta! Thank for the setting this up, and having made such an impression on Dave through this blog. x
Well done to you Carlotta, Ann and her family for doing this. Nice to know that there are decent journalists out there who report fairly and accurately...not like some of the nasty, twisted stuff of late.
Message from dd (8) who says "tell the man that he must have a good heart and that it's nice he didn't tell any lies about home edding".
Previous message from Min.....forgot my google password!!!...age...ach!......mutter...mutter!!
This article restores faith that there is honest news reporting out there..... and what a good story, well done Newsteads, Carlotta and thank you Dave.
Love from happy home-educators in Winchcombe
Will let Dave know of the general feeling. Thanks, everyone.
